רבי ישמעאל בנו של רבי יוחנן בן ברוקה

Rabbi Yishmael son of Rabbi Yochanan ben Beroka was a tanna of the fifth generation of the Tannaim. He learned Torah from his father, Rabbi Yochanan ben Beroka, and was not afraid to differ with him: in Masechet Bava Kama (perek 10, mishnah 2) the son’s opinion stands opposite the father’s. He is named several more times in the Mishnah, and he learned as well from the chachamim of Yavneh.

Masechet Avot preserves a teaching of his on the value of learning Torah in order to teach it to others. Further halachic teachings in his name appear in beraitot cited in the Talmud, and he is mentioned a number of times in the Sifra.
