Rav Abba of Yafo was an amora of that city; the sources call him Abba d’min Yafo, and some read Adda d’min Yafo. He is best known for the halacha taught in his name, that the ten sons of Haman are read in a single breath at the reading of Megillat Esther on Purim.
Chiya is called his son in the Talmud Yerushalmi, and his grandson in Bereishit Rabbah.
במקום שהמסורות חלוקות. Chiya's relationship to him differs by source: the Yerushalmi calls him his son, while Bereishit Rabbah calls him his grandson. His name also appears as Adda of Jaffa.
אַבָּא דְּמִן יָפוֹ, הידוע גם בתור אַדָּא דְּמִן יָפוֹ, היה אמורא ארצישראלי בדור השלישי, אשר חי ביפו.
Abba of Jaffa or Adda of Jaffa was an amora who lived in Jaffa. He is best known for his teaching that the 10 sons of Haman should be read in one breath during the recitation of the Book of Esther on Purim. Ḥiyya was his son according to the Jerusalem Talmud and his grandson according to Genesis Rabbah.
