תּוֹלְדוֹת
Rav Shila of Kfar Tamrata was an amora of Eretz Yisrael in the third generation, who lived in Kfar Tamrata in the lower Galil. He learned from Rav Yochanan and brings teachings in his name, and he left a son, Rav Acha.
Two of his derashot stand in Megillah. On the teaching that the angel Gavriel kept the merits of Mordechai from being erased from the book of records of Achashverosh, he expounded: if writing here below that stands to the merit of Israel is not erased, then writing above — how much more so. And on the manner in which the ten sons of Haman and the thirty-one kings are written, unlike Shirat HaYam, the shirah of Devorah and the other shirot, he taught that all the shirot are written half-brick over brick and brick over half-brick, except this one and the kings of Canaan, which are written half-brick over half-brick and brick over brick, so that there should be no rising again from their downfall. In Sotah his derashah on the sin of the meraglim is brought, that their tongues stretched out and fell upon their navels, with worms going out from their tongues and into their navels and back again. Further teachings of his are found across the Talmud and the sifrei midrash.
