רב הונא בר מנוח

Rav Huna bar Manoach was an amora of the sixth generation of the amoraim of Bavel. He learned before Rava, and afterward moved together with two colleagues, Rav Shmuel bar Idi and Rav Chiya of Vastanya, to learn before Rav Papa, who had taken up the headship of the yeshiva.

The three were not content with Rav Papa’s way of learning, and at times, when his Torah did not find favor in their eyes, they would signal one to another. Rav Papa was pained by it, and he dreamed a dream in which he was shown from Heaven that a severe punishment might fall on these three talmidim, in the words of the pasuk “and I cut off the three shepherds.” Following that dream he asked them not to continue learning in his beit midrash, and they left the yeshiva.
