תּוֹלְדוֹת
Rav Pinchas was an amora of Bavel in the fifth generation, who brings Torah many times in the name of Rava. He is not to be confused with the amora of the Yerushalmi known as Rabbi Pinchas; and where the Talmud Bavli mentions a Rabbi Pinchas, it is not known which sage is meant. An amora named Rav Huna brei d’Rav Pinchas is also mentioned, who may have been his son.
במקום שהמסורות חלוקות. He is to be distinguished from the Eretz Yisrael amora Rabbi Pinchas; references to a Rabbi Pinchas in the Bavli cannot be assigned with certainty.
