תּוֹלְדוֹת
Rav Rava served as gaon of the yeshiva of Pumbedita in the seventh century, in the years when that yeshiva sat in Nehardea. He held the seat between Rav Chanina of Bei Gohara and Rav Bosai. In the year 962 of the shtarot count, corresponding to 651, he joined with Rav Huna, gaon of the yeshiva of Sura, in enacting the takanat hamoredet.
במקום שהמסורות חלוקות. The years of his tenure are given differently: Rav Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi placed them at 640–650, while a later reckoning of 670–680 is no longer accepted.
רב רבא היה גאון ישיבת פומבדיתא במאה ה־7, בין רב חנינא מבי גוהרא ורב בוסאי. בשנת 651 תיקן יחד עם רב הונא, גאון ישיבת סורא, את "תקנת המורדת".
