Rabbi Yom Tov ben Rabbi Yehudah of Falaise was one of the Baalei HaTosafot in France. His father was the Rivan, Rabbi Yehudah ben Natan, who was Rashi‘s son-in-law, so that Rabbi Yom Tov was Rashi’s grandson; Rabbi Eliezer was his brother. According to Ephraim Urbach he moved his place of residence to Paris, where he is brought among the elders of the city to whom the Rashbam wrote.
His sons were Rabbi Yehudah ben Yom Tov, father-in-law of the Ri HaZaken, and Rabbi Yosef. Among their descendants were Rabbi Yehudah ben Yitzchak Messer Leon, and Bila, youngest daughter of Rabbi Yosef ben Yom Tov, who married her uncle Rabbi Eliezer ben Rabbi Yehudah ben Yom Tov.
He is brought in Tosafot in several places, in Sefer HaYashar and in the Mordechai on Shabbat, and Rabbi Kalonymus ben Rabbi Ovadyah brings him as well. Rabbeinu Tam wrote to him with marked respect — addressing him as his teacher and dear friend and saying that he was not worthy that Rabbi Yom Tov should have written to him — while rejecting sharply his position invalidating the get of an apostate, which would have left the wife an agunah, telling him that he was making a great mistake.
במקום שהמסורות חלוקות. A "Rabbi Yom Tov ben Yehudah" brought in Tosafot and in the Or Zarua is identified with him by Y. N. Epstein and others, though this rests on identification rather than on an explicit source.
