Rabbi Levi is an aggadic amora whose teachings are preserved chiefly through Midrashic literature and are repeatedly quoted in later works that draw on the Midrash. He is recorded as a master of aggadic exposition (derashah), often building his teachings around striking parables — for example, the image of three figures (Moses, Isaiah, and Jeremiah) who spoke in the language of “how” (eikhah), cited in Eichah Rabbah.
His sayings appear across the classical Midrashic collections — Bereshit Rabbah, Vayikra Rabbah, Devarim Rabbah, and Eichah Rabbah among them — and are transmitted both in his own name and by way of tradents who report teachings “in the name of Rabbi Levi.” Among the themes attached to him are the dignity and praise of repentance, declared so great that “it reaches the Throne of Glory,” and reflections on Scripture’s structure, such as his comment distinguishing where the text conceals matters as “the glory of Hashem”.

Levi II, or Rabbi Levi, was a Jewish scholar of the 3rd century. In a few cases he is quoted as Levi bar Laḥma (Hama). In later midrashim the title "Berabbi" is sometimes added to his name.
