תּוֹלְדוֹת
Yaiva, father-in-law of Ashyan bar Nadvach (ייבא חמוה דאשיין בר נדבך), was an amora of Bavel of the second generation, mentioned in the Talmud only a few times. In masechet Bava Batra, in the laws of damages between neighbors, he explains in the name of Rav the baraita that a man who builds a wall next to his fellow’s wall must set it back so as not to block the sunlight, and he rules that the distance required is the size of a window.
His son-in-law, Ashyan bar Nadvach, was a talmid of Rav Yehuda and appears in masechet Menachot bringing a ruling of Rav Yehuda in the halachot of sifrei Torah, tefillin and mezuzot.
