רבן גמליאל הרביעי

Rabban Gamliel IV was nasi of the Sanhedrin in the second generation of the Amoraim in Eretz Yisrael. He was the son of Rabbi Yehuda Nesiah and the great-grandson of Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi, the redactor of the Mishnah.

Nothing is brought in his name in the Talmud Bavli. The Yerushalmi relates that he wished to apply the laws of demai in Suria, and that Rabbi Hoshaya would not let him do so. Since he is named so rarely beside his father and his son, his years as nasi are reckoned to have been short ones. His seat passed to his son, Rabbi Yehuda Nesiah the second, a talmid of Rabbi Yochanan.
