רב איקא בר אבין

Rav Ika bar Avin was an amora whose teachings appear across several tractates of the Talmud. He is often the one who brings statements of Rav, frequently relaying them through Rav Chananel. In Nedarim and Megillah he cites Rav Chananel in the name of Rav on the verse in Nechemiah (8:8) “and they read in the scroll, in the Torah of Hashem, clearly,” explaining its phrases as referring to Scripture, the Aramaic translation (Targum), the division of the verses, the cantillation marks, and the Masorah. In Kiddushin he brings Rav Chananel quoting Rav that Chalzon Nihavand has the status of the Babylonian exile with respect to lineage (yuchasin) — a ruling Abaye challenged until they sent to Rav Chananel himself, who confirmed it.

His name appears in matters of practical halachah and aggadah alike. In Nedarim he speaks of Rav obligating himself to Rabbah, and in Eruvin he brings a teaching on the consequences of a husband who forces his wife, citing a verse from Mishlei. Care is needed, since several similarly named sages are cited in these passages — among them Rav Ika the son of Rav Ami, Rav Ika the son of Rav Idi, Rav Ika of Pashronya, and Rav Ika bar Chinena — who appear in discussions in Chullin, Bava Batra, Bava Kamma, and Eruvin.
