רב חנניה

Rav Chananya — also called Rav Chanina, and known by the name Rabbi Chananya of Tzipori — was an amora of Eretz Yisrael in the fifth generation. His closeness with Rabbi Mana shows itself above all in their many disputes with one another.

After serving some years as rosh yeshiva of Tzipori he handed the position over to Rabbi Mana, and would himself sit and learn before him. On account of this it was said of him that he is among those who laid aside their crown in this world and inherited the life of the World to Come. Some years later he went to Bavel and stayed there with Rav Ashi and learned with him, and so the Talmud Bavli brings several disputes between Rav Ashi and Rav Chananya.
