Biography
Asher ben Meshullam of Lunel, Rabbi Asher ben Meshullam HaKohen (אשר בן משולם מלוניל), known by the acronym HaRa’ash of Lunel, was a rishon among the chachamim of Provence, the son of Rabbi Meshullam HaKohen of Lunel and a talmid of the Raavad. In his generation he was known as a parush who was occupied with Torah day and night, and he kept himself from eating meat.
He wrote a sefer on hilchot Yom Tov. Some conjecture that he is the author of Sefer HaMatanot, and some attribute to him the Midrash Aseret HaDibrot as well. He is quoted in Sefer HaTerumot, the Tosafot mention questions he sent to the Ri HaZaken, and the Meiri cites him in Magen Avot. His brother was Rabbi Aharon of Lunel, and both brothers were in contact with Rabbi Yehudah ibn Tibbon.
