Biography
Rav Yaakov of Chinon (c. 4950/1190–5020/1260), known also as Rabbeinu Tam of Chinon, was a French baal hatosafot of the thirteenth century, of the town of Chinon. He learned under Rav Yitzchak ben Avraham of Dampierre, and among his own talmidim was Rav Peretz of Corbeil. The Mordechai, Rav Mordechai ben Hillel, brings that Rav Yaakov wrote a Shitah, a commentary on masechet Sanhedrin; beyond that he is known through a number of his tosafot.
Rabbi Jacob of Chinon also known as Rav Tam of Chinon was a 13th-century French Tosafist from Chinon. He was a pupil of Isaac ben Abraham of Dampierre and a teacher of Perez of Corbeil. Mordechai ben Hillel mentions that Jacob wrote "Shitṭah", a commentary on the Talmudic tractate, Sanhedrin. Besides that Rabbi Jacob is known for several of his tosafot.
