דב צבי הלר

Rabbi Dov Tzvi Heller (5622/1862, Shilel – 6 Elul 5695/1935, Yerushalayim), generally called by his Yiddish name Ber Hirsch Heller, was a rav and the mashgiach ruchani of the yeshivah of Slabodka. He was born in Shilel in Lithuania, then part of the Russian empire, to Eliezer Yitzchak and Chasia Gisa Heller.

He served as mashgiach ruchani in the yeshivah Knesset Yisrael of Slabodka under the rosh yeshivah Rabbi Natan Tzvi Finkel, and was known there for the sweetness of his manner, his gentleness and his love for his talmidim, which was such that he would often fast for their success. During the First World War the talmidim of the yeshivah fled to Minsk and many of them afterwards to Kremenchug, and he went with them on those wanderings. Shimon Reuven Dvoretz, a boy in Kremenchug at the time, described him as a holy man, a Chafetz Chaim in his plainness.

He went up to Eretz Yisrael in 5694 and was niftar in Yerushalayim the following year. He married Feiga Esther Blankfield, and of their children his daughter Chasia married Rabbi Avraham Grodzinski, who himself later served as mashgiach in Slabodka, and his daughter Ita Etel married Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky, later rosh yeshivah of Torah Vodaath. Their daughter Sarah and her husband were killed in the Holocaust.
