Parshat Shlach: the twelve spies sent to Canaan, their report, the night of weeping, and the decree of forty years in the desert. Then the libations brought with offerings, challah, the offering for an unwitting community sin, the wood-gatherer on Shabbat, and the mitzvah of tzitzit. Aliyah 1 — Numbers 13:1-13:20
עלייה 1 — במדבר 13:1-13:20Moshe sends twelve men, one from each tribe, to scout the land, and Hoshea becomes Yehoshua. What to look for, and the season of the first grapes.
Aliyah 2 — Numbers 13:21-14:7
עלייה 2 — במדבר 13:21-14:7The spies go up, cut the cluster at Nachal Eshkol, and return after forty days. Their report: the land flows with milk and honey, but the people are strong. Calev silences the people. The night of weeping, and the people talk of returning to Egypt.
Aliyah 3 — Numbers 14:8-14:25
עלייה 3 — במדבר 14:8-14:25Yehoshua and Calev tear their clothes: the land is very, very good. The people want to stone them. Hashem's anger, Moshe's plea, and Hashem forgives, but this generation will not enter the land.
