About the Midrash Rabbah on TorahSages

10 sefarim · 266 perakim

Midrash Rabbah is the aggadah of Chazal on the five books of the Torah and the five Megillot — ten collections, each called by the name of its sefer: Bereshit Rabbah, Shemot Rabbah, Vayikra Rabbah, Bamidbar Rabbah and Devarim Rabbah; Shir HaShirim Rabbah, Ruth Rabbah, Eicha Rabbah, Kohelet Rabbah and Esther Rabbah. They were not compiled together. The oldest, among them Bereshit Rabbah and Vayikra Rabbah, come from Eretz Yisrael in the era of the Amoraim; the others were gathered in the generations after, and the printers joined all ten into one set. Some go through the sefer pasuk by pasuk; others open each section with a pasuk from another sefer in Torah Shebichtav, most often in Ketuvim, that the darshan brings back to the pasuk at hand. Rashi often quotes Bereshit Rabbah in his peirush on the Chumash. Eicha Rabbah is among the few things one may learn on Tisha B’Av.

TorahSages has all ten Rabbot in 266 chapters — on the Torah, the 100 parshiyot of Bereshit Rabbah, 52 of Shemot Rabbah, 37 of Vayikra Rabbah, 23 of Bamidbar Rabbah and 11 of Devarim Rabbah; on the Megillot, 8 of Shir HaShirim Rabbah, 8 of Ruth Rabbah, 5 of Eicha Rabbah, 12 of Kohelet Rabbah and 10 of Esther Rabbah.
