About the Midrash Tanchuma on TorahSages

54 parshiyot · 767 simanim

Midrash Tanchuma is the aggadah of Chazal on the Chumash, arranged by the weekly parsha from Bereishit to V’Zot HaBerachah. It carries the name of Rabbi Tanchuma bar Abba, an Amora of Eretz Yisrael, in whose name many of its derashot are said. Many of its sections open with a question of halacha — “Yelamdenu Rabbeinu,” let our master teach us — and after the answer the darshan turns to the pasuk of the parsha, so that the halacha leads into the aggadah; for this it is also called Tanchuma Yelamdenu. Where the pasuk raises a question it often answers with a mashal, of a king and his son or a king and his servants. Its derashot go back to the Amoraim of Eretz Yisrael, and it took the form we have in the generations after the Gemara. It is learned with the parsha each week, and Rashi quotes it by name throughout his peirush on the Chumash.

TorahSages has all 54 parshiyot of the Torah in 767 sections, parsha by parsha, so the Midrash on this week’s parsha can be learned alongside it.
