Rabbi Ovadia of Bartenura (c. 1445–1515) left Italy for Yerushalayim in 1488 and there wrote the peirush on all six sedarim of the Mishnah that has been printed beside it since the Venice edition of 1548. His commentary on the Mishnah is similar to Rashi's on the Gemara in that he focuses on the peshat, the plain meaning of each mishnah, built on Rashi and the Rambam, with the halacha as it is decided noted when relevant.
