Rabbeinu Bachya ben Asher of Zaragoza (d. 1340), a talmid of the Rashba, (who himself was a talmid of the Ramban), wrote his peirush on the Chumash in four ways at once: the peshat, the midrash, the way of sechel, and the way of kabbalah. Each parsha opens with a pasuk from Mishlei and a drasha on it before the peirush begins, which is why it is read as a sefer of mussar and machshava as much as a commentary on the pasuk.
On TorahSages Rabbeinu Bachya appears beside the Chumash text and the other mefarshim of the Mikraot Gedolot — the Ramban, whose derech he follows and quotes, on the same pasuk — and the Torah chapter pages link the leining of each parsha.
