Parshat Shemot opens Sefer Shemot: the family of Yaakov grows into a nation and is enslaved, Moshe is born and raised in Pharaoh's house, flees to Midyan, and is sent back from the burning bush to bring Israel out. Moshe grows up, kills an Egyptian who is beating a Jew, and flees to Midyan. He rescues Yitro's daughters at the well and marries Tzipporah. The king dies and Israel's cry rises to Hashem.
