Biography
Ameimar bar Mar Yanuka was an amora whose teaching is preserved in tractate Chullin. He appears in a discussion of the laws of shechitah, addressing the case of one who leaves over part of the windpipe (the “chitei”) when slaughtering. He relates that he was standing before Rabbi Chiya the son of Rav Avya, who told him that in such a case the slaughter is valid (kasher).
His statement is set alongside parallel views brought in the name of Rava and others, reflecting how this halachah was debated and clarified among the sages of his generation.
רב אמימר בר מר ינוקא היה אמורא בבלי בן הדור השביעי והשמיני, תלמידו של רב חייא בריה דרב אויא. היה מנכבדי הקהילה היהודית בדורו, קרוב לסיומה של תקופת האמוראים, בזמן שצרות רבות פקדו את יהודי בבל. נאסר ועימו שניים מנכבדי הקהילה היהודית, והוצא להורג בימי מלך האימפריה הסאסאנית, פירוז הראשון.
Amemar bar Mar Yanuḳa was a Babylonian rabbi (amora) of the fifth and sixth amoraic generations, who, together with the Reish Galuta (exilarch) Huna Mar II. and Mesharsheya bar Pakod, first suffered martyrdom in the cause of Judaism on Babylonian soil – victims of the persecutions inaugurated by King Firuz.
