הרב אמי ורדינאה

Ami Vardinah was an amora whose teachings appear in the Talmud in matters of practical halachah. In Niddah he brings a teaching in the name of Rabbi Abbahu, describing a precise measure for evaluating the color of blood — comparing it to the blood of the small finger of a hand that had been bruised, healed, and bruised again, and specifying that this refers to a young unmarried man up to the age of twenty.

He is also recorded in Beitzah as one who examined the firstborn animals of the household of the Nasi to rule on their blemishes. The Gemara notes that he would not perform such inspections on a festival day, a practice that Rabbi Ami affirmed as proper; it adds that when Rabbi Ami himself examined firstborns, he did so the day before. These passages show Ami Vardinah engaged in the close, applied work of halachic determination.
