Avimi bar Papi was an amora. In the recorded passages he appears in tractate Ketubot, where the discussion turns on tracing the authorship of a particular teaching. There he states that the teaching of “shakud” was said, addressing the question of whether it was Shmuel or Rav who stated it, and he points to the possibility that it was Rav who said it.
