אליעזר מבלגנצי

Rav Eliezer of Beaugency was a French mikra commentator of the twelfth century, of the school of the Rashbam and one of the distinguished pashtanim of northern France. Like the Rashbam and Rav Yosef Kara, his chief concern was the flow of the pesukim — the connection between one pasuk and the next and the sequence of the thought — and he explained figurative language according to the metaphors of the context, often using French words to make his meaning plain. His perush holds to peshat throughout, without weaving in midrashim, and he took particular interest in setting each nevuah in its time and identifying the events to which it refers.

Known today are his commentaries on Yeshayahu, on Yechezkel — including the perakim on the form of the third Beit HaMikdash — and on Trei Asar; portions of a perush on Iyov also survive, and he himself refers to a commentary he wrote on Bereishit. His perush on all of Trei Asar is printed in the Czuker edition of the ArtScroll Mikraot Gedolot.
