Biography
Rabbi Isaac Aboab was a sage of the era of the Rishonim. He appears in the halachic literature in matters concerning the proper conduct of reading the Torah before the congregation.
In one citation preserved in the discussions on Orach Chayim, his teaching is brought regarding words that are written one way and read another (keri u’ketiv) — that it is a halachah given to Moshe at Sinai that such a word is written as it appears in the Torah but read according to its other form. Connected to this, an incident is recorded concerning someone who read a word as it was written rather than as it should be read, in the presence of the leading scholars of the generation.

Rabbi Isaac ben Abraham Aboab also known by his magnum opus, Menorat ha-Maor, was an early 14th century Spanish Talmudic scholar and Kabbalist. He is known for his intellectual approach to rabbinic literature, which he juxtaposed with contemporary Spanish Kabbalah.
