Biography
Rabbi Anani bar Sason was an amora whose teachings appear in tractate Shabbat. He brings rulings in the name of Rabbi Yishmael, addressing the laws of what adornments a woman may wear into a courtyard. In one such teaching he states the principle that “all is like the kavul,” comparing various ornaments to that headdress.
The Gemara in Shabbat (64b) examines his statement against a mishnah dealing with the kavul and a wig worn into the courtyard, raising a difficulty on his view. In resolving the discussion, the Gemara identifies the source he cites as Rabbi Yishmael bar Yosi, noting that the latter was a tanna and could therefore differ with the mishnah.
Where traditions differ. The passage first reports his teaching "in the name of Rabbi Yishmael" and then clarifies it was "in the name of Rabbi Yishmael bar Yosi."
