Biography
Rabbi Baruch of Worms was a Rishon whose halachic opinions are preserved in later works of practical law. He appears in discussions of the laws of Chol HaMoed: regarding the cutting of one’s nails during the intermediate days of a festival, where Rabbi Yehudah permitted it only with a knife and not with scissors, Rabbi Baruch is brought as taking the stricter view, forbidding it even with a knife.
His rulings also surface in the area of forbidden mixtures and the concern over a non-kosher fish becoming intermingled with a large quantity of permitted fish, a matter touching on the laws of min beshe’eino mino and the measures by which such admixtures are nullified. In these citations he is recorded alongside other early authorities whose views are weighed in arriving at the final halachah.
