רבי חנינא בן עגיל

Rabbi Chanina ben Agil

Rabbi Chanina ben Agil, an amora recorded questioning Rabbi Chiya bar Abba about the differences between the two sets of the Ten Commandments.

Biography

Rabbi Chanina ben Agil was an amora. He appears in tractate Bava Kamma, where he poses a question to Rabbi Chiya bar Abba about the wording of the Ten Commandments — asking why the first set (in the first Luchot) does not include the word “good” (טוב), while the later set does. The passage preserves him as a questioner exploring the textual differences between the two accounts of the Aseret HaDibrot.
