רבי פרנך

Rabbi Parnach was an amora. In the passages where he appears, he brings teachings in the name of Rabbi Yochanan, serving to carry his master’s words into later study.

In tractate Megillah (32a) he states in the name of Rabbi Yochanan that one who holds a Sefer Torah “bare” will be buried bare — explained not literally but as being buried without mitzvot. In the Midrash on parshat Mishpatim he again brings Rabbi Yochanan, reading the verse from Yehoshua about Achan’s spoil — the “mantle of Shinar” — as a royal garment worn by the king of Bavel who ruled over Yericho, tied to the theme of the cherished inheritance of the Land of Israel.
