רב אחא בר עויא

Rav Acha bar Avya was an amora whose teachings appear in the Talmud in matters of monetary law and family law. In Bava Batra he is recorded sitting before Rabbi Asi and stating in the name of Rabbi Asi bar Chanina that the chatzuva plant serves as a boundary marker dividing the property of a convert.

In Yevamot he raises a question that was asked in the West, in Eretz Yisrael, concerning a mother-in-law who comes into the relevant relationship only afterward — whether a woman would have in mind, at the outset, the possibility that her husband might die and she would fall before the yavam and be hated by her. His appearances thus show him both bringing the teachings of his predecessors and bringing the questions discussed in the academies of the Land of Israel.
