רב חלקיה בר טובי

Rav Chelkiya bar Tovi was an amora whose teachings appear across the Talmud on a range of practical and analytical topics. In Niddah he addresses the laws of a young girl whose time to see blood has not yet arrived, ruling on how her flow is counted as a single sighting. In Yoma he draws a distinction regarding an offering brought for its own sake as opposed to not for its sake, and in Shabbat he sets out measures of distance — within three, above ten, and the range between — that bear on liability, a view the Gemara notes differs from others. In Eruvin he discusses the materials with which an eruv may be made.

He also figures in matters of agriculture: in Menachot the Gemara records that he owned a corner of field which he would plow and sow in alternating halves, doubling its yield, selling the wheat for fine flour. A separate figure, Rav Chelkiya of Hagronya, appears raising objections in Horayot and Yevamot concerning communal offerings and the verse “there shall be one law for you.”
