רב המנונא סבא

Rav Hamnuna Saba was an amora whose name appears in the Gemara as a link in chains of halachic tradition, carrying rulings from Rav and the sages of his circle. He brings, for example, the teaching attributed to Rav that the halachah follows Rabbi Elazar — the ruling that earned Rav’s praise of Rabbi Elazar as “the happiest of the wise” (Gittin 26b, Ketubot 40a) — and a tradition, in the name of Rav Huna in the name of Rav, regarding whether the halachah follows Rabbi Shimon (Gittin 39b).

His teachings are recorded across several tractates. In Sukkah 42a he brings, through Rav Yitzchak bar Ashian and Rav Huna in the name of Rav, a ruling concerning items brought from a chamber that had not been examined. He also appears in a more personal scene in Pesachim 105a, attending upon the disciples of Rav at a meal as Shabbat approached, where he is told that the day fixes itself for Shabbat and no separate act is needed to establish it.
