רב פלטוי גאון

Rav Paltoi Gaon was one of the Geonim, the heads of the Babylonian academies in the post-talmudic age, whose responsa and rulings shaped the practice of later generations. He appears in the halachic literature as an authority cited on the order of the daily prayers and the structure of the synagogue service.

In the passages where he is brought, his teachings touch on the laws of the evening prayer (tefillat arvit), the wording and seasons of the blessings of the Amidah, and the fixing of the calendar — the lengths of the months and the writing of dates in documents during an intercalated year.
