רב סמא בריה דרבא

Rav Sama bereh deRava was an amora whose teachings appear in the Talmud Bavli. In Chullin he addresses the laws of treifot, ruling on the lung: one whose color resembles certain shades — like hops, like saffron, or like an egg — is treifah, while he clarifies that the green lung which is kosher is one resembling the color of leek (karti).

In Zevachim he is recorded raising an objection in a discussion of the laws of sacrifices and the bamah, questioning the assumption that an onen (a mourner before burial) is forbidden to bring offerings on a bamah, and suggesting that perhaps such service is permitted. His comments reflect a sharp engagement with both practical halachic distinctions and the analytic give-and-take of the study hall.
