רבין בריה דרב נחמן

Ravin son of Rav Nachman (רבין בריה דרב נחמן), called also Rav Avin, was an amora of Bavel of the third generation and a talmid of Rav Yehuda, who held him very dear. Rav Yehuda calls him several times “Ravin achi,” my brother Ravin, and gave him halachic instructions. The two owned neighboring fields: the branches of Rav Yehuda’s trees leaned over into Ravin’s field, and Ravin’s into his. The Rosh explains in his peirush that they were friends and neither one minded. Rav Yehuda advised him to buy fields far from the city, because of ayin hara (the evil eye). He also had a connection in learning with Rav Sheshet.
