הרב יהודה בן דורתאי

Rabbi Yehuda ben Durtai was a tanna. He is brought in tractate Pesachim (70b), where a baraita records that he, together with his son Durtai, separated himself and went to settle in the south. His departure was tied to a dispute over whether the chagigah offering is brought on Shabbat. He framed his position sharply, saying that were Eliyahu to come and ask Israel why they had not offered the chagigah on Shabbat, they would have no answer — and he expressed his wonderment at the two great sages of the generation, Shemayah and Avtalyon, whom he calls great scholars, that they had not taught Israel that the chagigah overrides Shabbat.
