הרב יששכר דכפר מנדי

Rabbi Yissachar of Kfar Mandi was an amora whose teachings are preserved in the Midrashic literature. He appears in the great collections of Aggadah, including Vayikra Rabbah, Bereshit Rabbah, Esther Rabbah, and Kohelet Rabbah, where he expounds verses of Tanach and draws lessons from them.

In Vayikra Rabbah he is brought alongside Rabbi Chama bar Chanina, the two of them addressing the difference between the prophets of Israel and the prophets of the nations of the world — a theme that touches on the manner in which Hashem reveals Himself, a subject also taken up nearby in Bereshit Rabbah. His teachings reach into matters of prophecy, mourning, and the proper reading of Scripture, the kind of Aggadic reflection that fills these works.
