Mar son of Rabbana (הרב מר בריה דרבנא) appears in our library among the named voices of Talmudic halachic discussion. Under the precise form “מר בריה דרבנא” he is recorded in tractate Keritot, where he reports a tradition he transmitted together with Rav Nachumi bar Zecharia (“I and Rav Nachumi bar Zecharia explained it here”); in Menachot, where in a discussion of the practical procedure of tying he is said to “do as we do”; and in Bava Kamma, where he offers an interpretation that even when transgressors fulfill certain commands they receive no reward for them.

Mar son of Ravina was a Babylonian Jewish rabbi who lived around the late third century. He was not the son of Ravina I or Ravina II, but of a different father having the same name.
