רבי אבא דמן עכו

Rabbi Abba of Akko was an amora, known by his association with the coastal town of Akko in the Land of Israel. He appears in the Talmud in practical matters of halachah and commerce, as well as in questions concerning legal documents.

In Avodah Zarah he is recorded dealing with a shipment of fish-brine (morayes) that arrived at the harbor of Akko: he stationed guards over it, prompting a discussion with Rava about the concern that wine might have been mixed in, weighed against the relative prices of brine and wine. In Ketubot, Rabbi Zeira credits him with preserving a teaching he would otherwise have forgotten, concerning three judges who sat to ratify a document when one of them died — that they must write that the court convened as three, one of whom is no longer present. His teachings were thus valued and brought by later sages such as Rabbi Zeira.
