Biography
Rabbi Moshe Alshich was one of the Acharonim, active in Safed in the Land of Israel during the sixteenth century. He was counted among the great Torah scholars of his generation, learning under Rabbi Yosef Karo, author of the Shulchan Aruch.
The Pele Yoetz brings him together with the leading sages of his era, mentioning him alongside his teacher Rabbi Yosef Karo and Rabbi Algazi. There the author cautions that one should be careful in how he refers to these holy teachers, not calling them merely by their family names — “the Rav Alshich” — but with the honorific “Moreinu HaRav Moshe Alshich,” a sign of the esteem in which he was held among Israel’s revered sages.

Moshe Alshich Hebrew: משה אלשיך, also spelled Alshech or Alsheikh, (1508–1593), known as the Alshich Hakadosh , was a prominent rabbi, preacher, and biblical commentator in the latter part of the sixteenth century.
