רבי יוסי בן כיפר

Rabbi Yosi ben Kippar was a tanna active in the Land of Israel. In the recorded passages he often appears bringing teachings in the names of earlier sages — he states a ruling in the name of Rabbi Eliezer, and elsewhere brings teachings in the name of Rabbi Shimon Shezuri. His teachings touch on questions of the calendar and the counting of years, as in Niddah, where he addresses when a partial year (one from which thirty days have passed) is treated as the full year for all matters. In Menachot and Rosh Hashanah he is cited on agricultural law concerning the Egyptian bean sown for seed, part of which took root before Rosh Hashanah and part after, and the rule that one does not separate terumah or maaser from the new crop on the old or from the old on the new.

He is also remembered in Berachot, where he and the grandson of Zechariah ben Kvutal were sent as two Torah scholars, and were publicly proclaimed to be among the great ones of the generation whose fathers had served in the Beit HaMikdash.
