Shimon the Yemenite or the variant Shimon of Timnah, of possible Yemenite origin. He was a 2nd-century Tanna (rabbinic sage) in Judea. Known as one of the "four elders" who gathered in Yavne, he is historically renowned for his Halachic rulings in the Mishnah, particularly his strict definition of a mamzer (illegitimate born child).
