Biography

Rabbi Yose bar Chanina is an oft-quoted amora whose teachings appear throughout the aggadic and halachic literature represented in our library. He is cited repeatedly in the Tanchuma-style midrashim on the Torah (on passages in Shemot, Beshalach, Ki Tisa, Chukat, and elsewhere) as well as in the Rabbah collections — Vayikra Rabbah, Devarim Rabbah, Esther Rabbah, Kohelet Rabbah, and Shir HaShirim Rabbah — and in later compilations such as Akeidat Yitzchak.

רבי יוסי בר חנינא היה אמורא ארצישראלי חשוב, משלהי הדור השני ומהדור השלישי של התקופה. היה מתלמידי רבי יוחנן, ושימש כדיין.

Rabbi Jose bar Hanina was an amora of the Land of Israel, from the second generation of the Amoraim.
