About the Mivchar HaPeninim on TorahSages
Mivchar HaPeninim, “the choicest of pearls,” is a collection of short sayings on wisdom, middot and conduct, traditionally attributed to Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol (c. 1021–c. 1058) of Spain, the paytan of Keter Malchut. It was written in Arabic and put into Hebrew by Rabbi Yehuda ibn Tibbon. The sayings are gathered by subject into shaarim, beginning with the shaar of chochmah, and most open with “Amar hechacham,” the wise man said. Each saying stands on its own in a line or two, so the sefer is learned a little at a time and its sayings are easy to remember.
TorahSages has the Mivchar HaPeninim in the London 1859 edition, all 64 shaarim.
