Biography
Rabbi Yose HaGelili (“the Galilean”) was a Tanna active in the Galilee and Judaea. He is among the sages whose teachings recur throughout the classical midrashic and halachic literature, and his views are frequently invoked by later codifiers and commentators who weigh his positions alongside those of his contemporaries.
Taken together, the material shows a sage engaged in both halachic analysis—festival labor, sacrificial and purity law, the laws of battle—and scriptural and aggadic interpretation, whose readings were sufficiently authoritative to be transmitted and debated by generations of later scholars.
Where traditions differ. Wikidata's death date of c. 200 CE seems late for a disciple of Eliezer ben Hurcanus. ; Some cited passages mention 'Rabbi Yose' or other sages without confirming they refer to Rabbi Yose HaGelili specifically.

Jose the Galilean, d. 15 Av, was a Jewish sage who lived in the 1st and 2nd centuries CE. He was one of the Tannaim, the rabbis whose work was compiled in the Mishna.
